Let's see....  My father says he's a Catholic (but as I am older now I don't think he is so 'catholicy' if you know what I mean) so I supposedly was raised Catholic.  I even went through all the stuff that Catholics are supposed to do except get married in that church.  So I knew who God was and had a somewhat idea of what Jesus did but as Catholics go... they more like let you know what they want you to know, and not really the whole truth (I never cared for going to a priest to confess, it was still telling a person your deepest thoughts and I was really uncomfortable with that, even at 12 years old, and that it was up to the priest to tell me to say Hail Marys and Our Fathers so that I would be forgiven).  I didn't know anything and as I got into my twenties I went down hill, bad marriage and the sad baggage that went with it.  And as I got to my personal bottom pit something was letting me know that I had to straighten up.  This lasted for a couple of months.  Then I met Ryan and before I got to know him well I got that HE'S THE ONE, He's Mr. Right feeling and it hit me like a ton of bricks (Michelle can testify to my story she was working with me when I went into work saying "He's the One!" before I really met him).  Ryan had been well Saved by then and it took me at least a year of many fustraiting conversation to finally get my light bulb turned on.  Talk about a spot light.  Well it was more like it was on a dimmer switch and I'm barely even glowing now after 4 years.   It didn't take me long to figure out that Ryan was sent to me.  In less than 2 years of meeting Ryan I became Saved.  Of course I'm telling you the non-detailed version but even the detailed version is not terrible, just mainly that I was a lost soul and I acted out because I was calling for help without knowing it.  Ryan is my main source of information but I think I give him some help too.  I have this need to be ahead of him when reading the Bible, but not by much  Wink  This is one book I take my time reading so I can soak it up.  (Regular books I can finish a 500 page book in 2 days on average, except Jane Austin, I had to slow down to understand the verbage).

So.....   Who's next?   Huh

Yes Jenn, I remember you telling me about him and showing me his picture!!! I actually grew up Presbyterian, and after I hit the teen years I stopped going to church.  Today, I still don't go to church, but I still believe in God and I have been trying to get some faith back into my life.  I would love to have a copy of the Bible, but I've been getting all of my resources when I need them online. My husband believes in God also, but he's told me before that he doesn't care for organized religion. I think he would choose to be Catholic though, if he practiced.  We don't discuss religion too much, but I think we both know what we believe.  I'm not sure he knows how much I've been looking into reading the Bible more and showing interest. I don't know know what else to say now, that pretty much sums it up I guess.  We are both trying to get rid of some demons in our life, like alcoholism for both of us and smoking for him.

Chelle,

Please understand that all I am about to write is out of love…the love of Jesus Christ.  First of all, don’t let all of the different denominations be a stubling block for you and your husband.  I am a Christian whom has accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.  I have no doubt that Jesus came here with one purpose, to die for all of mankind and to save all of us from our sins.  Think of it this way, Jesus is the mediator between us and God.  When you die, you will stand before God to be judged for all you have done in your life.  Everything, especially those things that we do in secret…God sees everything.  At that time Jesus will be there…if he knows you, he will be your mediator and communicate to God all of the wonderful things that Chelle did in her life after accepting Him as her Lord and Saviour.  He will talk about how you strived to completely submit to Him.  Reading His Word, Praying, and ultimately following, to the best of your ability, God’s Holy law...  The Ten Commandments.  Always remember, that ALL of us fall short of the wonderful perfection of Jesus.  However, as Christians, we are commanded to do all we can to be like Jesus.  We must be last, not first.  We must be humble, not proud.  We are called to take care of those who are the least in this world.  As Americans, we have SO MUCH that others don’t.  If you are reading this then you have the ability to do something that many will never be able to do…READ!  Don’t spend another moment gathering your faith.  Get on your knees and cry out to Jesus to enter into your heart and make all these things that I am describing make sense...to have the understanding that you need to follow his Commandments.  When you believe with all of your heart that Jesus is who he says he is (according to His Word), he will fill your heart and soul with the Holy Spirit, which will be that little voice in your conscience that will hammer you when you commit sins and fill you with joy when you serve God.  In closing here are a few questions to ask yourself:

Do you consider yourself a good person?

Do you think that you have kept God’s Ten Commandments?

Here are common examples:  Have you ever told a lie, have you ever lusted after another man whom wasn’t your husband.  Jesus said that if you lust after someone in your heart that in His eyes you are guilty of adultery.  Have you ever stolen anything (size doesn’t matter here)?  Have you ever dishonored your parents?  As you can see WE have all done these things at one time or another…

Here are the Ten Commandments: (NIV Version)

1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
3.You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
4.Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
5.Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
6.You shall not murder.
7.You shall not commit adultery.
8.You shall not steal.
9.You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

At this point, after reading this, if you died NOW and had to stand before God and be judged by His Law, would you be found guilty and be cast in Hell for eternity (that is a long time…)?  ALL us would be cast into Hell without a doubt, but there is HOPE.  His name is Jesus Christ and he will forgive you of all the sins that you have ever committed and give you a new heart…you will be reborn.  Your spirit will be filled with His will and not Your will.

When you are ready to pour out your heart for God…

Say this prayer: (this is commonly known as the sinners prayer)

“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”

God Bless You Chelle…We are praying for you and your husband…

If the above post has you halting in your tracks, it is normal.  I’ve been there and done that.  Any mention of God or Jesus I was out the door…so to speak.  The majority of the people would say that church people are hypocrites.  Yeah, it would seem like it, but you can’t expect us to be perfect can you?  Also, not everyone who attends church is Saved.  Being Saved is a spiritual rebirth that occurs when you literally say that you accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour and that he died on the cross for You.  The process that occurs after becoming reborn will take your entire life to learn about what all of the Truth is.  It took me a few years to feel Saved.  Knowing the Truth is only a start, understanding it is a whole different process.  It is called Wisdom and “She” takes up the whole book of Proverbs.  Yes, Wisdom is a She.  The Truth is that God sent Jesus so that YOU may be Saved and go to Heaven because God loves you.  He created you and wants you to be in Heaven with Him.  He is the one that decides if you go to Heaven or Hell.  Satan is a fallen angel whom he and his buddies (who are also fallen angels) entice you to do the wrong things.  Satan wants you to believe that there is no God, that he isn’t perfect.  He wants you to doubt! Every one has broken every single one of the 10 commandments.  Yes this means you have “killed” because you hated someone.  Who didn’t make money, sex or drugs their god (meaning making it the priority in their life) or thinking they know how God is supposed to be (this is making their own idol)?  Why does God let bad things happen?  Read Job.  He had his whole life stripped from him and he believed that he offended God.  Even his so called friends who were so called religious continually put Job down, that he did something wrong.  Because of Job’s faith (even though he was severely depressed, but never cursed God, or broken any of the commandments) God restored his life and took the lives of Job’s so called friends.

What I am trying to say is that you will hear other unsaved people talk bad about churches, saved people, etc. but you can find out the truth for yourself just by reading the Bible.  Start in the New Testament (Matthew is the first book), don’t worry about Revelations just yet.  What Bible should you get?  (N)ASB, NLT, NIV, etc AND of course KJV is a must no matter what…though it may be slow reading with the fancy 1600’s terminology.  So get a KJV and NASB at the same time as a suggestion.  There is also something called a parallel bible that includes two versions (your choice).  This allows the reader to study the KJV while having a common English version, such as the NASB, as a reference.  You can get a KJV for a whopping $1.00 at the Dollar Store!!!!!  Isn’t God funny how he wants to reach out to you?Huh  An interesting version of the KJV is the Evidence Bible, which has questions and answers and it takes out the thee and thous stuff.

What does it mean to put God first?  Read the Bible daily, just a chapter but as long as you soak in what you are reading.  When you are Saved the Bible will make sense!  It will also make sense why an unsaved person may not make heads or tails of it.

As a newbie Saved person, don’t worry about feeling forced to do all sorts of things right away.  You will be led to do what you are supposed to do.  It could mean sponsoring a child in another country, helping at the nursery at the church you are attending.  Heck it could mean that you go out and become a Pastor!  Just remember that the Holy Spirit will mold the newly Saved You at the pace meant just for you!

Aim for a Christian church that goes by the Book (Bible) and teaches you from the Bible.  Go find one that you are comfortable with.  God will let you know where your home church is.  I know of one that it is aimed for those who don’t want to attend a “church” (a physical looking church) and the people are from the rough neck of the woods, so to speak.

If you are wondering about scientific and historical evidence:  www.godandscience.org is a great website (aimed to dispute atheists).   Conviction and a bit of evangelism (meaning you go out and tell the world that they need to be saved) is www.wayofthemaster.com and where the Evidence Bible became popular. Also www.jesusfreak.net  is another and so is Christianity.com.  (I personally like Joyce Meyer because she is down to earth and funny.  She points out human actions and that they are just that… human and how we can overcome our personality traits that are holding us back from being our potential.)

There is no getting ready to be Saved.  There is no reason to put it off.  Just say the Sinners Prayer and the one mentioned above is one of the many variations, the main ingredients are the same it just may be said in different ways, even your own way.  I’ve said it multiple times.  Don’t worry about feeling not good enough; God will take care of that.  That is the whole point, because no one is good enough.  If you have depression, it makes it a lot worse.  Pray, talk to God, ask for help, pray for others, pray for protection, guidance or even help with your relationships.  Thinking negative thoughts?  Pray!  Say the Lord’s Prayer over and over again.  Ask to have the negative thought removed from you.  Who knows, you may actually feel a Spiritual hug (it is a one of a kind feeling).  This is how you get a clean slate in your life.  All the bad stuff no longer matters and you begin to let go of your past hurts.  Even that is a process and it all takes time.  Also you will know the true meaning of right and wrong.

God doesn’t need to prove anything because he already has!  The main one is Jesus!  Another is the Bible. Many others are in the Old Testament.  What more does He have to prove?

One of my favorite quotes I saw passing by a church:
“Hypocrites appreciate Christians enough to imitate them”

What does that tell you?
